While I love everything I stitch and create, there are some pieces that really take my heart – and this is one of them. When I found the antique original, it took my breath away – the movement in the ferns, the lightness of the butterflies glancing above – it is truly a wonder.

The original (pics to come soon – when I get a sunny day!) was quite different though. Stitched entirely in beads, and on a fully-stitched, dark red ground, the design captured me immediately. However, I wanted to make it more achievable for us to stitch (fully-stitched backgrounds?!) and to emphasize the lightness and delicacy of the piece.
So mine is an adaptation – stitched on a pale, blush pink linen that echoes the red of the original, but in a softer, gentler fashion. Of course, you are welcome to stitch it on any colour you choose – and in beads if you wish! I hope you enjoy creating and enjoying this peaceful scene as much as I loved adapting it for you.
My model was stitched on 36-count ‘Blush’ by Paddock Lane Designs using Gentle Arts, Classic Colorworks and Weeks Dye Works (DMC conversion provided).
Please contact your local or online needlework store if you would like a copy. As a small designer outside of the US, shops only order if you ask! Many thanks…
