A big thank you

While I’m working on a big post about the Stitching in the Mountains Retreat just past, I wanted to share with you now my heartfelt thanks to the attendees for your company, and for your generosity. Lisa from Paddock Lane Designs and I ran a competition to raise money for the Older Women’s Network NSW, a charity that supports the welfare and rights of older women, and works in practical ways, such as building housing (older, single women are the greatest at-risk group of homelessness here).

I was so touched by the generosity of friends who donated prizes, such as Katie and team at Cottage Garden Threads, Robyn at Cascade House Embroidery, Tessa and Lorraine at Patchwork Plus, the amazing Shona at Flossanthology, Nicola at Number12StitchCo, Jay at JaysXStitch. Lisa donated some of her wonderful hand-dyed fabric, I was happy to throw in some patterns and threadpacks, and my talented family helped out too: my dad donated one of his upcycled birdhouses, my mum one of her beautiful woven baskets (perfect for an ORT tray), my aunt (@pinkbrushturkeyart) made some fabulous needlecases… I was so overwhelmed…

And thank you to the wonderful stitchers who gave so generously – we raised $581 for OWN. I was even happier when OWN reached out to thank us personally. It is wonderful to know that everyone’s donations means a great deal to them too: the Chair of OWN sent this message especially for you:

As someone who has learnt a great deal from the women who came before me, this is an issue that I care deeply about, and I am so grateful for everyone’s kindness, generosity and support. If you would like to know more about OWN NSW, you can visit them at: https://ownnsw.org.au/ Or you might like to search out a similar organisation in your community.

Thank you again, and I’ll be back soon with more about the retreat and some new treats!

Joanna
